SIR GEORGE GREY'S INTERVIEW WITH REWI.

A correspondent in Waikato, who has evidently taken some trouble in the matter, sends an account of the interview between the Premier and Native Minister and Bewi, differing considerably from what has already been published. We give our correspondent's telegram as we have received it, without accepting any responsibility for its accuracy :—

Waikato, Wednesday. On Tuesday morning Bewi sent in to Te Awamutu, to his pakeha—the one whom he introduced to Mr Sheehan as his interpreter—asking him to take to him (Eewi) Grey's paper (the Herald), containing the report of the meeting betwixt himself and Sir George Grey at the house of Eos?, Puniu. Me said Mr Grace took down the" talk, and as he only wrote some of the talk, he would like to see what was put down. The interpreter telegraphed to your correspondent-—" Bewi denied all the statements in Monday's Herald re taking a seat in Parliament, &c, excepting the conversation, of which I send the following translated copy:"—On the 12th I saw Grey. The first words Grey asked me were, if I had heard what had been said atHikurangi. I replied, "Yes." He then asked, " Have you heard what was said the second day ?" I replied,." Yes." Mr Grace asked, " Are you satisfied with what Grey and Tawhiao said ?" I said," Is Grey satisfied ? '* Grey asked, " Will you go to Parliament ? " I replied, " No." He said, " Why won't you go to Parliament?" I said, " When you and Tawhiao come to to a conclusion that enlightens me, then will be the time for me to speak." This day being asked by wire to cogmannicate what was said about a railway being taken through his country, and about blocks of land being sold here and there along the line, Hewi replied as follows:—"The question you asked me about the railway is not correct—what they have said that I have agreed to the railway. They did not ask me this question, to let railways on our land.. AH I said to them was that I was going to Mokau." Eewi said he,intended Sir George Grey to pome to his place over the boundary, and had prepared to meet him there, but, as the heavy rain on Saturday, night had flooded the river, and Sir George Grey being represented to be very unwell, he was induced to meet him at Mr Boss's house—Mr Boss being his friend.—N. Z. Herald.

We are requested to acknowledge receipt of the sum of £2 14s 8d by Mrs Honias, hon. secretary of the Ladies' Benevolent Society, and a similar amount by Mr Honiss, secretary to the Thames Hospital Committee, from the committee ' of management of the recent 1.0.G-.T. anniversary celebration, being the'gross amount of the collection made at the Sunday evening service, without any de«duction for expenses, the proceeds of the soiree having been sufficient to cover all costs of the celebration. "Augustus, dear," said she, tenderly pushing him from her as the moonlight flooded the bay window, where they were standing, "I think you had better try some other hair-dye — your moustache tastes like turpentine." *■ Music on the Tiles.—Hat bands.
