WELLINGTON.
Wednesday.
Mr Clark, the hydraulic engineer, has submitted to the Council an elaborate plan for the drainage of Wellington. He proposed draining the lower part of the town by one drain and the higher portion by another. The sewage 'from tbe lower drain is to be lifted 28 feet above high water. The drainage of both sewers is to be afterwards rereived into a tunnel a mile and a quarter in length md conveyed on to a sandy isthmus between Evens'
and Lyell's, Bays, which it will reach at a level 22 feet above high water M r Clark intimates that forty miles of sewers will be required for immediate construction, of which a large poriion will be ouly six inches in diameter. He recommends the acquisition of 400 acres at Ljell's Bay. He estimates the total cost of the works at £145,000, exclusive of ihe cost of land to be used as a depot. The total annual working charges are estimated at £10,154.
