Paeboa, This day.
A native meeting was held at Takerei's place yesterday. Haora Tupaea and a number of natives from the Cape Colville district were inclined to support Tukukino in his opposition to road making! but Te Wikiriwhi and others, who are now engaged on the Paeroa-Puke road, told them plainly that they intended to go on with their work. If the County Council ordered other work to be done (referring to the road to the Thames through Te Komata) they would go and do it, as V money " was a powerful agent, and put aside sentiment and feelings of kindred. The weather is very unsettled just now, and we have had some very heavy showers from the westward. Mr H. T. Bowe, surveyor, was engaged yesterday in laying off streets for the proposed extension of the township at Te Arero, Hikutaia. - I hear that the crushing at Owharoa has been shaping splendidly. There is now plenty of water, bat, unfortunately, the wire rope slipped off the drum, and some of the cams have been broken.
