Thursday

The annual meeting of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association today resolved " That in the opinion of this meeting the time has arrived when steps should he taken to establish an agricultural and pastoral association in New Zealand, holding periodical exhibitions at the 'centres on the plan of the Royal Agricultural Society in England, or the Highland Society of Scotland; that the Secretary be instructed to write to different societies throughout the island asking their concurrence and assistance in establishing such an institution; also a resolution that a company be formed for the purpose of erecting a public market and corn exchange at Oamaru, in one thousand shares at £10 each.

At the conclusion of the speeches by Messrs Shrimski and Hislop, in addressing their constituents, a vote of confidence in both was unanimously pasted.
