Meeting of Pumping Arrangements Committee.
The Pumping Arrangements Committee of the County; Council held a protracted meeting at the Council Chambers yesterr day, at which the question of pumping and its cost, and the matter of continuing the prospecting drives were fully discussed. The following resolutions were ultimately adopted:—" 1. That, in the .opinion of this committee, the extension of the south cross-cut has increased the cost of pumping operations, so that the various sources of revenue, having greatly declined, are inadequate for their maintenance, it is therefore v undesirable to continue the drive until better provisions are made for keeping the pumps 'going, either by fifing the Council fuller control over the expenditure, or by increasing contributions from adjacent and. benefited claims. 2. The committee are further of opinion that sufficient length of country has been opened up and reefs intersected to warrant energetic prospecting of the mines on the Waiofahi Spur and Tookey's Flat, and, in accordance with the resolution of the conference, do nominate Johu T. Hall to,act on behalf of the County Council in the matter of determining what reefs afford .a fair prospect of success." .
