Cr Bagnall thought that he should supply a new rope. Crs Coutts and Thorburn expressed an i opinion that one winding rope only would | be required. The Chairman said that a hew rope would cost £200: , ; ••■•> ; i The motion was then carried.The Chairmaa said'that of late the contributions of the companies ; had been falling off, and the expenses had been increasing, so that now there was £600 or £700 per; month to be made up to the County and Borough Councils. The strictest economy would haye to be urjtc| tiaedi and ho thought that their position should be laid before the Pumping As.' sociation. ■ ; Cr Thorburn asked the Chairman what was his Tiew with respect to the £10,000 securities: : > TKe Chairman said that several persons stated' that these securities were given exclusively on consideration that driving should be continued. This was not cor- 1 rect. The handing over of the securities only involved them keeping the pump going, and the qurryingon of prospecting works was left^ the discretion of the Council.
