DR. PAYNE AND THE HOSPITAL.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) . Sib,—ln looking at the report of the meeting of the Thames Hospital Committee, I see that Mr McCullough is reported to have said that " Dr. Payne • | had repeatedly refused to go inta the^ri I Hospital while Dr. Perston and Mr Ait? -r .;' - ken were there." Permit me to inform . , him through your columns that he is itt , ; I error, as I only on one occasion refused to 1 attend when sent for,- and that occasion was just before resigning my appointment on the honorary staff, and before Dr. O'jriaberty's appearance on the field. One other matter I would like to draw your attention to. Mr Aitken refers to the necessity for repentance for canvas*- - ing for votes before the burial of poor Dr. Perston. Allow me to inform him that I took no steps in the matter until I was informed on good authority that some of Dr. O'Flaherty'a friends were busy on , his behalf (not necessarily with Dr. O'Flaherty's sanction), and this on the day of Dr. Perston's death. Surely if. they see nothing indecent in their haste, I may be excused if I follow suit.—l am, &C., MaBMK H. PaYNK. May 2nd, 1878.
