MOANATAIRI.

The gold was melted at the Bank of New Zealand to-day, when it weighed 27Sois. At the mine nothing new has transpired since the writing of the mine manager's report, which is as follows :— 150-feet level. —In driving west No. 9 reef is two feet thick and payable stuff. A band of day has been met with 12 feet on west side of No. 2 slide, which has rather disordered the reef, bat I think it will become more compact after a few feet more driving. Driving east between two slides v suspended, the reef being small, but I think more quartz exists in the south side. To prove this I have started a winze from bottom of 80 feet level on Heldt's reef which is here 2 feet thick, and of a promising appearance. 80-feet level.—No. 9 reef, in west drive; is 4 feet thick, and payable stuff showing good colors of gold, and the lime remark will apply to stopes in bsck of this level. The north crosscut, to intersect No. S reef, is extended 44 feet in favourable couu.ry. All the stopes throtiith the mine are producing the same average quality and quantity of crushing stuff without any change to mention. During past fortnight 400 tons stuff have been crushed, yielding 280 ounces gold. Main tunnel has been ex* tended 25 feet thia week. The country is now free from quartz or stringers and is favorable for driving. Bat&ry •topped at 6 a.m. to-day for inspection of boilers on Monday, and will start again on Tuesday.— Hour. Comkh.
