A Woman Burned to Death in Hobson Street.
An accident which it was at first thought would entail no serious con■equences, but which yesterday terminated fatally, occurred on Tuesday night in Hobson street, to Mrs McCoskrie, wife of an engineer residing nearly opposite the Scotia Hotel. On the night in question Mr McCoskrie went to the circus, leaving hit wife at home. On his return lie found that she had been severely burned about the chest and abdomen, and he at once procured the services of Dr Hooper, who used the customary remedies to alleviate her sufferings. No serious consequences were at first anticipated, but the shock to her system was bo great that she died yesterday morning. Mrs McCoskrie was about 47 years of age. There was no one in the house with her when the accident occurred, but she ex--I>lained to her husband and to others bebre her death that when lighting up the fire to prepare supper'and have it ready on her husband's return, she poured some kerosene on the embers. It ignited suddenly, and caught her dress. She raised no alarm, but tore off her clothes as auickly as possible, and supposed that be had escaped without serious injury. Notwithstanding the unremitting attention of her medical adviser and her .friends, she gradually sank, and, as •li^jdy stated, died yesterday morning. An fnqaest will be held at 2 o'clock today.—Herald.
