Mr Clark, Civil Engineer, is now engaged devising a scheme for the drainage of Wellington. He has also undertaken to report upon the best means of bringing an additional water supply into the town from the Paturatahi stream, either by ditch or aqueduct. Spurious sovereigns are being circulated to tome extent here now.
The New Zealand Times will come out to-morrow enlarged to the same size as the leading morning journals of the colony. The Hon. Dr. Pollen has left Auckland for Wellington to take control of the paper when he arrives. This day. It is stated that immigration under the auspices of the Government, which ceased for some months,- has been resumed. It has been ordered that free passages shall be provided for immigrants, so that th«y may arrive here in Spring, when there will be a large demand for their services. It is intended that passages for 5000 free immigrants shall be granted for the year. Reporters for the Press will not be allowed to be present at the forthcoming Native meeting at Hikurangi, but an arrangement will be made for supplying the papers with the results of proceedings. Sixty pounds of stone from Golden Point reef, Queen Charlotte $ound, has been crushed here preparatory to being tested by Dr Hector.
