Sunday. At half-past twelre to-day a man named William Taylor Baker) who Lad only been in the town a fortnight, and since then had been drinking hearily, committed suicide by strangling himself in a small building adjoining Allen and
Stonnbe's blacksmith's shop. When discovered he was laying on'liis back on the ground. A strap was drawn tight round his neck. Near him was an upright post with pieces of timber projecting crossways about four feet from the ground. It is supposed ho held one end of the strap to this timber, and had then drawn himself up, thus tightening it it round his neck, and strangling himself, then let po Ms hold and falling to the ground. An inquest is to be held tomorrow.
