Harbor Board.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the members of this body was held at the Borough Council Chambers last evening. There were present—^Mr "W. Davies, (Chairman), Dr Kilgour (Mayor), Messrs Spencer and Mennie.

HIKUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. APOLOGT. A letter was read from Mr L. Bagnall stating that he would not be able to attend the meeting, and apologising for his absence. The writer also asked: that his notice of motion re the appointment of solicitor be postponed till next meeting. It was decided 16 postpone the consideration of this motion and also the one re the officers' salaries till next meeting in consequence of the small attendance. STOHBAaK OF DYKAMIT*. The Chairman laid he wished to ask the opinion of the Board re the storage of dynamite in the powder magazine. Dr Kilgour. proposed .that the Board give permission to the magazine-keeper to store dynamite in the powder maga* zine. En passant. The Chairman said at present there were about 2000 kegs of powder at the magazine, which brought in a weekly income of £8 6s. TABABU WHABF. The Chairman said that Mr Robert Graham had been applied to for permission to store the timber of Tararu wharf, when it was removed, on a vacant allot* ment at Tararu. This Mr Graham refused to do, as he wanted to see what the result of Sir John Coode's visit would be. It was decided to postpone the removal of the wharf till after Sir John Coode's visit. OFFICIAL AUDITOR'S FEE. It was resolved that the Official Auditor's fee be two guineas. SIB JOHN COODE. The Chairman said that he was at present collecting data, and the Harbor Master was taking soundings in view of Sir John Coode's visit of inspection to the Thames harbor. COLLECTION OE TOLLS. The Chairman said he regretted that they had not got a solicitor, as there were several matters that he would like to have a legal opinion on. One of them was that the Collector of Customs was of opinion that he could not legally detain a ship's papers for non-payment of wharfage. He (the Chairman) was of opinion that the Collector could detain a vessel's papers till all harbor dues were paid. FINANCIAL.

A number of small accounts were presented for payment. This was all the business.
