Sydney, April 10. At Goulburn John Glass has been conrioted of rape, and sentenced to death. Mr Allen continues his Sunday services here. Mklbotthne, April 10. The pilot board have considered the circumstances of the running down of the fishing boat by the Dutch barque, five miles from Williamstown. The decision is reserved. There was a splendid attendance at the Opera House at Madame Simonsen's benefit. The Governor, in proroguing Parliament, said :—" Grave questions of constitutional rights and powers havo arisen, and have been debated and maintained with inflexible, resolution, but I rejoice to add that the settlement has been ultimately found not inconsistent with the principle of responsible Government, and the spirit of the constitution. Notwithstanding the delay which unfortunately occurred in connection with the passing of the Appropriation Bill the public works of the colony have been uninterruptedly continued, and the administration of justice and of several departments of the Government have proceeded without interruption." The defences at the heads are nearly completed, and will form a strong fortification. Adelaide, April 10. Bouoaur and Parsons have been elected for Encounter Bay, and Turner, Eoss, and Hare for Wallaroo. The revenue receipts for the past nine months are £1,175,389, showing an increase on the corresponding period of 1877 of £153,144. The special receipts for the same period are £192,286, showing j an increase of £84,688. The expenditure for the nine months has been £1,068,888, { as against £926,445 for the corresponding period last year. The loan expenditure is £689,871 for the same period. The quarter's revenue is £351,961, showing an increase over the corresponding period of last year of £24,000. The expenditure amounts to £364,807. Farther searches undoubtedly confirm the wreck of the ship Merchant. A board having the letter " C " and part of the letter "R'V have been found, and also a portion of the stern of a large vessel with the letter "M" and part of the letter "C " cut in lead and nailed on. A number of logs with various brands were found, and the remains of a boab were also discovered. Farther search has been ordered.
