MOANATAIRI.

; Since my last report the country in the tunuel has got a little harder, but not enough to.have much effect oh the distance driven daring last week, which was 23 feet. There are quarts stringers showing pretty plentifully in the face; otaer parts of the mine are withont change. The gold was melted at the Bank of New Zealand today, and after undergoing that process it weighed 232£ ounces. The following is a copy of the mine manager's usual weekly report:—ln driving west No. 9 reef is fire feet thick, and shows colors of gold, but is low grade stuff. In the' drive east between two slides the reef is one foot thick) and looks poor, The ground is soft and letting out water, which makes it heavy on timber. Eighty feet level. —In drive west No. 9 reef is liz feet thick, and shows good colon of

gold, but the reef ia much broken. There remains sixty feet to drive to the western boundary. The reef in this direction has not been prospected, and from the appsar* anco will, I think, prove payable. There is nothing fresh to remark in any of the Btopes. Four hundred and forty tons of quartz have been crushed during the past fortnight for a yield of 236 ounces gold. The main tunnel has been extended this week twenty-three feet. There are a series of quartz stringers making, and the country is a little tight. We hare fixed an inch waterpipe from battery through tunnel to supply rock drill when working, the water from the 132 feet level not being sufficient for that purpose. The machinery is all in good working order.—l am, Ac, Host. Comkb.
