WESTPORT.
Friday. A prospecting area has been applied for at the Totara river, midway between Wesport and Charlestown. Two prospects yielded eight or nine shillings' worth (P pennyweights) of gold for two men's work for two days. The wash is black sand. There is plenty of ground, but the easiest constructed race will cost four thousand pounds; Several claims have already been pegged off, and application made for water rights.
