In replying, to a memorandum as to the present position of the colonies regarding the crisis, Sir Michael Hicks-Beach read a telegram from Governor Bowen, stating that the crisis had ended, trade was reviving, and political animosity subsiding. Sir M. H. Beach remarked that even if the. Governor had made* mistakes, it was not, perhaps, wise to discuss his conduct, Now that the crisis i_i'over, he promised to go carefully into the question of paying on votes of the Assembly? merely, and will give the Governor instructions for his guidance.
