Saturday. "he Board of Education reports that the past nine months gire the estimated number of children in Canterbury between the ages of 5 and 15 at 23,125; tho number attending school 14,249; the percentage being 61, and higher than the preceding years, except 1875, when the attendance percentage was 66 and 65. On September 30th there were 9117 schools as against 104 for the corresponding period in 1876. The report of the Inspector of Sheep for the past year shews that between the Waiau and Waitangi rirers there are 3,307,711 sheep, being an increase of 58,463 on the preTious year.
This day. In reply to an inquiry the Lyttelton Harbor Board hare received a telegram from the Gorernment to the effect that no warning bat been receired from Home to protect the harbors of the Colony. A man named O'Leary reported to the police yesterday that he was garrotted early on Sunday morning and robbed of about £10.
About 2 o'clock on Sunday morning a cab driver was stuck up near the river Styk, North road, by two men, but giving his horse a vigorous cut with the whip he managed to escape.
