MOANATAIEL
I am glad to state that the improvement in the class of coantrj in the tunnel noticed in a previous report continues, while the presence of stringers of quarts indicate the approach of a leader or reef, of some sort. The country is favorable for gold-beaing, being muudio- seamed and mineralised. The distance driven during the week was 23 feet. The manager's report given below gives a full account of the present nppearanco of the mine :— " The drive west on No. 9 reef is making slow progress, the reef and country being tight. Colors of gold are occasionally seen, but the stuff is low grade. Driving .east between the slides has been suspended for a few days iv order to timber up, but is now resumed. The reef is one foot thick, and contains a mixture of mundic and copper; . the country is soft and much broken. The stope in No. 9' between No. 1 and 2 will bo all worked out to bottom of 80 feet level in another fortnight. 80-feet level.—ln driving west No. 9 .reef is 4 feet thick and shows colors of gold. Good progress is being made in the cxtention of north cross—cut to intersect No. 2 reef. Driving has been started from winse sunk on All Nations' leader for an intermediate level 35 feet below 80 feet level. The reef at this point is split into several branches, but the upper part will pay to stope out. There is no change in any part of the mine to report, and the stuff throughout is of poor quality. The country in main tunnel is favorable, and good progress is being made—23 feet has been driven this week. There are stringers of quartz running parallel with tunnel, and the ground is well mineralised. All machinery in good order.—Yours, etc., Bobt. Comib."
