Martin, Glynn, an old offender, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, in Brown street, on Saturday afternoon ; also with having assaulted Constable Haslelt while in the.discharge of his duty. „.. Defendant said he had been drunk, but was not aware that he had assaulted the constable.

Mr Bullen said that the defendant had been rery drunk, and had insulted sorcral perioni on the itrect. He assaulted Constable Haslett when he attempted to arrest him.

Constable Haslctt,. sworn, deponed—l was on duty fa Brown street on Saturday afternoon, and saw defendant there. He was mad drunk. Ho was bump* ing up against the people. I arrested him, and he struck me twice. I bad great trouble to arrest him, nnd I could not hare done it if I bad not had assistance. By defendent—l nerer caught you by the back. Eou knew I was a policeman well enough. . . His Worship said he would be fined 20s and costs, or 48 hours' imprisonment for the first offence, and 40s, or 3 days' imprisonment, for the second.

Court adjourned.
