Tn the Supreme Court today, Mr Barton moved for a rule nisi calling upon T.K. McDonald, It. Kent, 0. McKirdy, and J. H. Bethune, to show cause why an attachment should not be isiued against them for contempt of Court in selling the shares of plain tiff, E. T. Gillon, in the Argus Newspaper Com, pany, the matter being then in the hands of the Court. In support of the application, he read an affidavit by P. Le Strange Barton, showing that he had handed to the auctioneer, Mr Bethune, 8 protest against the sale on behalf of Mr Gillon. The motion was ultimately adjourned until Tuesday.
In consequence of the rapidly diminishing quantity of water in the reservoir, the water for the city will, from to-morrow, be again cut off during the day, otherwise, it is said, in less than a week the supply would be exhausted.

It is understood here that the stores department is to bo immediately abolished.
Tho Government have decided to appoint Mr Blackett Engineer in-Chief of non-constructed railways for the North.' Island, and Mr Btiird, district engineer of Dunedirij to the same office in the' South Island. These officers are to perform the duties formerly dcvelving upon Mr Carruthers. '
