THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O' CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. MONDAY, APRIL 1, 1878.

The absence from our contemporary's " summary" of any reference to the public meeting held on Monday evening last, or the subsequent interview of the Committee with the Hon. J. Sheehan, has been remarked upon as singular. The meeting was not secondary in importance to many that have preceded it, and of which our contemporary has made much, but in the " general news " of today's paper, presumably prepared for home readers, there is not the slightest reference to it, or the subjects discussed. It would have occurred to most people that a home summary would have been just the medium through which to publish the opinions of a Minister of the Crown and the people of this district on the Broomhall question. Residents in the old country contemplating investment in the Broomhall scheme might be deterred when they read that the whole transaction was characterised as a " swindle," and a " gross injustice " to the residents in the district where Mr Broo shall had made his selection —more especially, if they saw that the legality of the transaction would probably be tested m a Court of law. Our contemporary can perhaps explain the omission or wilful exclusion of this important public matter from his summary to day. Has its conjunction with the Gold JDnty repeal anything to do with it ?
