WELLINGTON
Wednesday. Mr Barton Will, on Friday, hiring on a motion in Banco to quash the order for his commitment for contempt of Court. The Postmaster-General has issued a stamped newspaper halfpenny wrapper, which will come into use on the Ist of April next. These wrappers will be sold much in the same way as postage stamps, but in parcels of not less than 13, or multiple of it. It is currently reported that the Hon. Dr Pollen will assume the editorship of the New Zealand Times on the first of next month.
It is stated that there will shortly be a retirement of several leading officials from the Engineer's department of the General Government.
Mr Sothern is drawing good houses. This day. Seventy applications under the nominated immigrant system have been made here this month. The Government have decided not to accept any more nominations for foreign immigrants. MrHigginson, assistant railway engineer for the North Island, and Mr Knorpp holding a similar office for South Island, have received notice in terms of agreement that their services will be dispensed with. Other officers of the same department have been similarly notified.
