They may be worth their study, and repay peruMl in enlightening them noon a subject of practical utility^ THE HISTORY OF THE ESSENCE'S DISCOVEBY. The Australian anti-fever tree—that isthe blue gum, or eucalyptus ghbul**—hßM now spread its fame throughout the world, but:' there are many who do not properly estimate Us splendid qualities. It has been estimate* B that the Australian, blue-gumi, which stud the face of the. colony, contain about five ' hundred million gallons of pure volatile oil,, that is the mortal foe of fever and ague. Svery day in the year the fdreste of the colony are . giving out and exhaling, in the form of vapor, an aromatic fragrance to our brteses, and a health-giving essence, to our people. This {act is now recognised by all the scientist! in the world., , . .. ITS CLAIM AS A OUBATITfc -'-■'' It has now become the fashion with the inventers or discoverers of remedial agents to claim something little short of infallibility and universality of cure for their respective agents; Messrs Bander and Sens did nothing of the sort. They have confidence that their essence possesses many virtues; bat the full extent of these, they do not know yet. They are now collecting data, and they are most careful and searching in.performing.this. It is quite sure then, that t their eucalypti essence can fairly assert iteelf to be a grand panacea for many of the ills that flesh is heir to. In SearUt, Typhoid, or any cats s/Jitw, nothing will protect better against contagion tfaan a few drops of the essence poured in the palm of the hand, and rubbed in, in order to liberate the vapors, or sprinkled over the, clothes. The perfume will be noticed for a' great length of time. . Inwardly used, take three er four drops in half a tumbler of water. The essence efteets a most surprising change of the whole constitution, correcting indigestion, and creating a healthy appetite. For Children Attending School*, the Mm* mode may be adopted. . ' .a . In Gates of Sieknets, a few drops put into ;1 a saucer, and pat into the room will, being ™ an etherio esience, evaporate, and ill the room with the panfying vapor. ■'-'' )\ Are you obliged, to Travel I A few dropi £ occasionally rubbed on the body, will protect ~. against any contagien you may be exposed to, in coming direct with sick persons, or in sleeping in the same room with, or in beds , occupied previously by sick persons. AH Sotelkeepers will do well to sprinkle from time to time in drawers, where linen ii usually kept, a few drops of the. pure essential essence. It produces no spots whatever, as every particle of it evaporates, and nothing remains.. ' In.fhort, where a disinfectant is needed, the pure estential ecualypti essence ought to be the one you have recourse to, and no family ought'to be without it. ! For all"Wounds, Cuts, Burns, BeaJdings t Ulcers, and Cancerous Wounds, a piece of " linen wrapped round the suffering part, and moistened; with a few drops of the eucalypti eisencr, will stop all pain, and'effect % speedy cure. In cases where a piece of linen cannot " bs applied, the moistening of the suffering part with the pure essence will do as well. - In Case of. Colds moisten the nostrils with a few drops and inhale the vapour, and you will feel the immediate relief, and entire riddance of the heat. In all cases, where the, Lungs, mag be Affected, the; above-mentioned pvoieai j continually repeated, will be the best that can be advised. In cases qf Rheumatism, ' a mixture of one part of the pure essential eucalypti essence with three parts of spirits of wine, well rubbed in the suffering part, has acted better than any other remedy. . , - : , In. all cases of Inflammation, the essence may be applied to the psrt affected. In severe cotes of Toothache of rheumatic origin, the pure; essence may be' iapplied on the external part of the face. In cases of Inflammation of the Eyes, apply the pure essence to the outside of the eyelids. Headache and Sheumatic Pains in the Bead are positively cured and removed by rubbing the ersence on the effected parts.
