WELLINGTON.

Jtanday. At half-past 5 o'clock this morning, a fire broke out at Mrs Mason's lodginghouse, Willis street. The flames got a good hold inside before it was discovered. Some of the lodgers had great difficulty in escaping. Two who slept in the up£er part had to /drop from the window on to an outhouse. Another lodger was much cut and bruised in making his escape, All of them lost their clothes, and several their last week's wages. The landlady had about sixty pounds in cash in a purse under the mattress, which was also lost. The fire brigade confined the fire to that house. The building was insured for £6CO in the South British, and the furniture for £609 in the Victoria and £6CO in the National.
