POACHING.
(To tbc Editor o! the Evening Star.)
Sib,—May I ask through the medium of your columns if the police department are aware of the fact that the close season for shcoting wild ducks in this district is almost a complete farce, and that boats are seen almost; every Saturday leaving Grabo mstown and Shortland for the par* pose of slaughtering the birds P I write this in the hope that the ducks may have a respite for at least a few days before the reason opens, and I further ask those who do not respect the game laws, is it fair to others who do to go and decimate the birds during the clqso season P ; Surely their idea of sport is very poor 1. Of late tlio guns of the would-be sportsmen can be heard from the Thames lagoons at Shortland almost every evening.—l am, Ac., Ak Old Shot.
