A COUPLE OF MANIACS.

The Argus of the 14th says: —An exciting iucident occurred on tho Hutt road between Kaiwarra and Ngahauranga lately. Two men were driving along the road when they had some words as to the proper way of holding the reins. When they had been disputing some time, one of them told the other that he did not know what he was talking about, and advised him to "go and drown himself." The person who was so advised merely said " All right," and to bis companion's consternation jumped out of the cart, got over the fence, and, throwing his hat down in a very violent manner, plunged into ' the sea. He walked out several yards into the water and then proceeded to duck his head under the surface. The other man by this time had become somewhat alarmed, but as the horse was a rather restive animal he was afraid to leave it. All he could do was to stand and look in a confused and amazed way at his comrade's antics in the water. At length he began to think that the man in the water seemed determined to put an end to himself, and therefore he fastened his horse to the fence, and .rushed into the water to rescue his mate. After a struggle in the water be managed to pet his companion to the shore, and then a fight took place between them, the man who went into the sea being wrathful at the other for having saved him. Eventually, * however, they made the matter up and drove home.
