A member of the .Common Council of Baltimore recently refused to rote for lamps in front of a tabernacle, as he " did'nt like to encourage such places." He changed bis mind, however, when he learned that the tabernacle was a chnreb, and not a saloon, as he had supposed. Charles Fox and his friend Hare, both much incommoded by duns, were together in a house, when, seeing; some shabby men about the door, they grew afraid lest they were bailiffs in search of one of them. Not knowing which was in' danger, Fox opened the window, and calling to them, said, "Pray, gentlemen, are you foxhunting or hare-hunting ?
