THE WEEK.
The chronic dulncss in mining matters has. during ..the past week been con* siderably increased by the visit of the Governor, and other extraneous events. Perhaps the incident of greatest moment is the partial stoppage of the Waitekauri mine and the cessation of crashing operations at the company's battery. The avowed reason is lor the purposo of await* ing the completion of new arrangements with the mortgagees, bat the real reason is undoubtedly the poor way the stuff hae been yielding during the past few months. With ah efficient supply of water the low grade stuff might be made payable, as it could then be crushed in larger quantities; but the present supply of water is scarcely adequate to drive half the crushing power of the mill. Should arrangements be made so that the tattery can be restarted, the energies of the directors should be directed to the obtain* ance of an increased supply of water. . The Alburaia have had an interim re* torting which promises that a better yield than many expect will be th« result of the month's operations. Other news does not call for comment.
