An enterprising New York druggist has connected his store by telephone with tho houses of several doctors in that city. Brigham Young's grave is said to be watched day and night by Mormons living for this purpose in tonts near the spot George Macdouald has received the usual British reward of successful authorship; he has been given a pension of |500 a year. Stanley is showered with compliments by the Portuguese, who are greatly delighted with his discoveries, which will enable them to extend their African trade.
The Illinois State Firemen^s Association propose holding a i>rand national tournament in Chicago next fall. Prizes amounting in the aggregate to §10,000 will be offered.
It is said that Mr Archibald Forbes received a douceur of £2000, in addition to his stipulated remuneration, from the proprietors of the Daily News on his recent return from the seat of war.

The latter is now engaged on the " FJowers of the Forest, in which he takes the roll of Kinchin. The enormous quantities of herrings caught this year off the Danish coasts lead the Danes to believe and hope that these fish, which left their waters about three hundred years ago, may now again direct their migrationi thither. The Adrian (Michigan) Times prints the following as a genuine " excuse " brought to a teacher in that neighbourhood: " Miss —- please Excuse minnie for She Was helping me She is a grate to me thou Small she may be I would miss hur if the lord should Call hur at any time & oblige tfri'B ."■'
" Moody and Sankey," say the Paris Gaulois, " are the fbumiera of a new- religion which enjoys a certain vogue in the Uuited States. Moody tells stories by way of a sermon and his partner sings tongs. In the United States that is called religion. In Paris we should simply call it a concert saloon."
