A RATE PAYER ON THE BOROUGH EXPENDITURE.

(To the Editor of the Erening Star.)

Sib, —I see that the Council have decided to gire a grand entertainment on the day of the Governor's visit. My object in writing is to know who is to pay for this. Is it the Councillors P or are they acting the liberal with other people's money P If so, it is time the ratepayers called them to account. I don't think it is legal that they should squander the rates in this way. If so, they had better order a day's holiday and keep up their own birthdays. lam sure the people would be glad to see the rates squandered (*ic). I see there is to be a Bteamer chartered and ten carriages. Are there to be any carriages for the ratepayers P or are they to walk and see the drones waste the honey they produce. I think it is time tbe working bees turned round on the drones and said to them, "No more wasting our honey!" Sir, I see at the meetiug of the Borough Council there were only three present — Councillors Bowe, McGowan, and Wilson. Is three a quorum P or can one Councillor declare a public holiday.—lam, Ac, A Batbpatsb.
