THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 1878.

The visit of His Excellency the Governor, we are glad to perceive from the action ot local governing, bodies, wiir'Kc made the occasion of a demonstration befitting the reception of Her Majesty's representative. The visit of a Governor is an event that can be loyally celebrated without giving to the proceedings any political significance. In doing honor to the Queen's representative we show our loyalty to the Queen herself, and there are few in any British community who would decline to accord honor to one who, as Queen, wife, mother, woman, has shown herself a paragon of excellence. In all situations and relations of life, Her Majesty has endeared herself to her people, and Governors of Golonies are in a measure intended to keep alive that feeling of loyal endearment to the person of the sovereign which might wane had it to depend upon the personal influence of the sovereign, which is felt but in a moderate degree by Her Majesty's colonial subjects. There are very many reasons why all lawabiding subjects should strive *i do honor to the Governor^ not in a servile fashion, but as men who " Fear God and honor the Queen." We do not fear that the recep tion of His Excellency the Governor on Thursday next will be lacking in any of those features of loyalty and cordiality accorded to him on a previous visit, aud to those who have been his predecessors in office. The local governing bodies, representatives of the people, nre preparing a right royal reception, and the inhabitants generally will, vie feel assured, second, their efforts in a mauuer worthy of the Thames aud its people.
