BOROUGH EXPENDITURE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sib,—l should think that it is almost time that the squandering of ratepayers' money ceased. In no other.plane throughout the Colony is ihero such useless waste of public money as here. What with deputations, municipal leagues, receptions, &c, no wonder we can't get our \ footpaths, &c, put in repair. I did think, that we had in Cr Howe a man that would at least protest against such extravagance; but alas! we yesterday find him advocating the very thing that he to bitterly oppoted when Sir George Grey was about to visit us. Now, sir, what I would propose to the rateyayers of the Borough and County is, that we should uuite and test the question in a court of law, as to whether public money can be so appropriated without the consent of the ratepayers. I would also urge on the ratepayers and general public to refrain from taking any part in such hypercritical proceedings.—l am, Ac, •i W.P. Thames, March 19th, 1878. . ' P.B. —lf nineteen other ratepayers of the Borough and County will join me, we will sue the Borough and County Councils for misappropriating funds entrusted to their care. W.P.
