MOANATAIRL.
This mine was visited to-daj. The tunnel has become very hard again, as instanced by the fact that onlj 15 feet was driven during last'week. The mine is not looking very well all through, and the mine manager's report for last week, given below, gives a full account of the present appearance of the mine. The following is a copy of the mine manager's usual weekly report:—" 150 feet level.—No. 9 reef west is fully 3 feel thick, but there is no change in it to mention, and the same remarks will appjt to south cross-cut between two slides. Stoping has been started on All Nations leader, which is one foot thick and payable stuff. 80 feet level.—The lust 15 feet driven on No. 9 reef west from slide showed very encouraging prospects with good blotches of gold in the stone. At this point a water course was intersected crossing and disturbing the reef, making it small and poor .quality stuff. East of cross-cut iv the horse of ground between the No. 9 and Heldt's reefs there are numerous leaders resembling alluvial quartz dipping east towards main slide. This is now being worked out, and is payable stuff. Ido not think the quartz will continue far from the clay. There ia no change in any of the slopes to mention; the stuff from, the stope on No. 9 reef above tunnel level will be tested in a few days. Main funnel—ls harder now than any previous time, and slow progress is made. With the present character of rock it would be worth £5 per foot by hand labor with an ordinary party of men. Fifteen feet has been driven during past week. Point Eussell winze is down 33 feet, and in the bottom there is & stringy well-defined lode three feet thick. Sinking has been suspended for a short, time until the tunnel js driven up under winze. Sinking and rising can then b» j started at the same time, and the work carried through with no delay. I may mention that the water is insufficient to retard sinking, but it is better to suspend now
than when down 100 feet. During the last fortnight 450 tons of quartz have been crushed for the yield of 242 ounces gold. Machinery all in good working order.-~RoBT. Cojibb."
The crushing of one ton of stuff for James Sawyer and partj', a new lot of tributero, produced loz 4dwts gold. This is a payable prospect, and the tributers are now taking out a six ton lot, Which they will be ready to crush in about a month's lime.
