j OHI2TKMTJBI. (FHOM OUR OWN COIiBESPONDBNT.) Pak&oa, This day, 10.30 a.m. I sent you yesterday a short account of the visit of the Hon. the Native Minister and party. Mr 0. F. Mitchell accompanied them to Te Aroha, but.Mr : J. .Newman remained behind, as it was thought that his presence might tend to retard negotiations if it became known that he was Mr Broombalt's agent. The party will go down.to the Thames today in time to catch the Auckland steamer. The soiree at Waitekauri on Thursdaj evening was a great success. The weather was all that could be desired, and - there was a largo attendance. Several who had iutended to go pat from Paeroa were prevented, owing to the fact that the Native Minister was expected, who ar> rived the same evening.' The songs and recitations were' well received. Mr and Mrs Korth's German duets, the Jadj accompanying vtry sweetly on the guitar, were decidedly the gems of the evening, and the novelty look immensely. I am sorry to report that the Watte* kauri battery is to suspend operations to-day. Mr James Brown arrived list night, and has tgxrae out; to Waitekauri this morning. I hear that a reeonstrue* tion of the company is in. contempJatioslr" I hope the business will be got over as" speedily as possible. The low levels will still be carried on. : ' The St. Patrick's Day Race Committee will hold a meeting tonight to fix the amounts of prises. There is a good sum in hand, and it has already been decided that there shall be five horse races, besides wrestling, running, greasy pig, greasy boom, and other sports. If the weather keeps .fine we shall be able to offer visitors a good day's entertainment. I hear that the Hibernian Society and their fine band may be expected to patronise us. .
