PIAKO.
Bice and party, working a tribute in the Bird-in-Hand section, hare finished a trial crushing of four loads for the yield of 2ozß 3dwts gold. This arerage will pay when the section is got into better working order. The quartz was obtained while prospecting about the block. Wilton and parly of the Piako block, and Willir ms and party of the Birdia-Hand block are crushing at Bull's mill, ihe former has 90 tous, and the latter 50 lons. In the company's workings the manager has not a single wages man employed, all the works being done by contract. The Vanguard cross-cut is in about 120 feet, or half the distance required to reach the Vanguard lode; and this has been driven in less than a month. Since my last report another smell but likely-looking leader has been intersected. It is expected that the lode will be cut near its junction with the cross reef, and the
surveyor was down to-day luyiug off the drive 10 as to come as near to the junction as possible. The wince at No. 6 level continues to make fair progress, but it will be some days yet before the junction is reached. The leader looks well.
