We lea;n that the scarcity of water in the Waiotabi ia becoming serious, and that unless a supply is furnished very scan, from rain or other sources, an outbreak of some epidemic may be expect;-d.

Tho Crerk has long been contaminated j by mineral and other mutter to such an extent as to bo positively unfit for domestic purposes, while tho insignificant supply which hns been obtained from a spring in .the Shamrock drive is now nearly exhausted. The domestic supply is available to the inhabitants of the lower part of tho Creek, but the majority of tho inhabitants reside above that, and are now in great straits for want of water. The children attending tho public school, numbering over a hundred daily average, are put to sore trouble to quench their thirst, and many families are reduced to extremity for water for drinking and other purposes. A deputation of the residents wailed on the Mayor to-day and represented the matter to him, but he was powerless to do anything. The matter should receive early attention at tho hands of the Water Supply Committee. Indeed we think that body should go fully into the question of water supply, with a view to increase the demand and distribute it generally, and then procure the power to make a rate, so that the cost of such a boon as an efficient water supply may be equitably distributed.
