NONPAREIL UNITED.
Since Mr John Goldsworthy has assumed .the management of this mine, a considerable amount of work has been done at prospecting the various lodes but by Mr Chapman. I paid a visit to the workings on the Central Italy adit level to-day. At about 70 feet from the face of the drive there is a belt of slidy clay skirting the side of the drive at one point; in this the manager observed a little " quartzy" formation sticking through the clay, and on taking some of it down came on the footwall of a fine looking reef three feel thick, showing some gold. This lode is composed of both friable and blocky quartz, and really looks first rate, and it is the manager's intention to break out a few loads as a trial iv a day or two. I may mention that as far as is known this is an entirely new reef, and is intact to the surface. Some extensive operations are being carried on on the specimen leader (the one from which the rich, specimens were obtained some time ago).' A drive has been in some 30 or 40 feet on | the leader, and some good stone obtained. \ The leader is three or four inches thick, and though not so rich as when cut in the drive, it has a promising appearance. Sloping is also going ahead, and some 20 loads have been broken out, which will be crushed next week. Stoping is also goicg ahead on the Nonpareil main lode, whk.ii is some 18 inches lliick, and loks pretty well. There is a good sited block of country intact here. I may mention that all through the mine the country is of a bad character for steading, and most of the old workings are useless, having fallen in. I
