SERVANT GIRLISM.

The following good thing appears in the London Town Talk in the Melbourne Argus:—" The lengths to which 'Servant Girlism' is going in this country is appalling, and the latest example of it caps all. A gentleman and bis family spent four months on tbe Continent this year, leaving their bouse in charge of two female domestics. When they came home a miracle occurred They found nothing had gone particularly wrong. But a few weeks after, the Paterfamilias met aa acquaintance in the street, who received htm with a sympathising air. 'I was aorry, my dear sir, to find you had a domestic calamity in your family.' 'I* not' a bit of it.' We are all right.' ' But there baa been a death in your house P' •Certainly not. Why do you say so?' • Well, only a month ago I happened to be passing down your terrace, nnd saw with my own ejcuva funeral cortege standing at your door. Of course I made no inquiries' at the time, but I was surprised to see nothing of the matter in the paper.' Paterfamilias went home grietouslj puzzled, but at last got to the root of the story- His servauts had let his house for three months on their own responsibility, and shared the rent between them. This would probably never have been discovered, only their tenant's wife had tbe misfortune to decease during his brief occupation of tbe premises."
