Austin, " That the first resolution as proposed by Mr Logan, seconded by Mr Coote, and passed at meeting held on Thursday, the 21st Feb., re the discontinuance of the formation of the Paeroa-Puke road, be now rescinded." It is a noteworthy fact that six members of the new committee* can muster up thirty three children. The County Chairman and a number of others came up in the Buona Ventura on Monday, and met Tukukino at. Xohfata. The next day they attended a meeting at Hirawa to Moananui's settlement. 1 understand that the; party *<U eMheup again next w ak, and will give old Tuku* kino no peace until the road is opened between nere and the JHikulaia Biver. Captain Fraser, 8.M., has gone up to Te Aroha to arrange the compensation awards for land taken by the road now' being made. Mrs Austin, of the Puke, gave a picnic on Monday to celebrate her daughter's birthday. The children attending the Paeroa Sunday Bchool were invited. The day was fine, although there was a slight shower in the morning, and everything went off very satisfactorily. Jack Frost was out on the "rampage* last night, and his tracks were distinctly visible this morning amongst the neighbours' melons and pumpkins. Information was about to be laid at the Police Office, but, owing to the want of a J.P, in the district, people thought it would be more expeditious to do the requisite amount of " swearing " at home.
