THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 1878.

The chance of a visit from the Opera Company is not probable now, the members baring completed their terms of engagement and disbanded in Auckland; A portion of the company, however, have coalesced, and intend to make a tour of New Zealand as a concert company, giving gems from their operatic repertoire. This company, it will be noticed, will give two concerts at the Thames on Saturday and Monday next, and the names comprising the company are a guarantee that a rich treat will lie afforded. While regretting that the full company could not visit us, we may be thankful for smaller favors, and content ourselves with the treat to be afforded in the forthcoming concerts.

At a meeting of the Parawai School Committee held at the School-house last evening, Mr Thomas Spencer was elected chairman, and Mr Vernon secretary and treasurer.

We are informed on good authority that as soon as the Parawai petition is disposed of a strenuous endeavour will be made to merge the Eauaeranga district into the Borough. m

Some people are Tery bad at- figures, but we hare seldom heard of any ns bad as a disciple of St. Crispin, who " hangs out" in this town. He took a contract for the supply of dog collars to one oF our local bodies, and in numbering the brass plates, instead of the figures 120, 121, etc., there appeared on the plates 10020 and 1002 L The work was sent bsek.
