A special message to the Melbourne Argus says the terms of peace were signed yesterday. But for the extravagant demands of Kitssia, embodied in the new terms of peace, this news would hare been most reassuring. But, howerer much these terms may have been modified, there is too much reason to fear that the signing of the Treaty will precipitate matters as far as England and the other European Powers are concerned: If Turkey has been cajoled into making concessions inimical to the interests of Great Britain or Austria, these latter Powers will protest. Then Bussia is not likely to giro way to to outsiders after exacting terms from her conquered foe. Bussia declined mediation when Turkey sought for it. It did not suit her purpose to accept the intervention of other Powers when she felt confident of being able to dictate her own terms of peace. These terms,. we are told, have been kept secret, but sufficient of their tcnour has been divulged to let the world know that, if carried out, all the blood and treasure lavished in former wars, in assisting Turkey against Russia, in order" to preserve tho balance of power in Europe," hare been wasted, and that British interests are imperilled now if ever they can be by actual events and such possible contingencies as the occupation by Bussia of Constantinople, the possession of the key to the Black Sea, and the annexation of Armenia.
