NEW MORNING STAR.

This mine was visited to-day. At present the onlj operations of importance are confined to the 138 feet level. Here driving is proceeding pa the No. 4 lode, which is about one foot thick, and has a verj healthy appearance. Colors of gold are visible, and the conntrj casing the reef is good. The manager (Mr William Golds worthy) is taking steps to secure the ground, and the slide having been cut, a start will be made in a day or two at stoping. It is expected that in a fortuight there will be a parcel out, when crushing at one of the batteries on the flat will be started. A little work is being done ■ on some small leaders 'in the upper level, and a little gold'has been seen, but nothing of. any con* sequence. The company possesses a twelve stamper battery, of its own, which is in fair working order, but. until there is enough quarts to enable" a continuous run to be kept up it is not worth while to start it. The company's shaft, which is a slab one, is in splendid order, and the poppet legs are new and of sufficient height to give plenty of room for the disposal of mullock. Only one section of the shaft is being worked Just now, and the rope used is a round one;: A flat one would add to the efficiency of the working of the shaft, but that would entail considerable expenditure, as a new pulley, spider wheel, etc., would have also to be fitted up.
