MOANATAIRI.

In a previous report on this mine it was stated that the JNo. 9 reef in drive west, 150 feet level, was not looking so well, and it is to be regretted that up to the present there is no improvement. The new stope started from .No. 3 winze should pay well, as gold was frequentlj seen when the level was being driven along. The drive between the two slides has intersected a leader ten inches thick, which, however, the manager thinks is not the Wo. 9 lode, and there are indications of quartz ahead. The cross cut is now nearly 50 feet long. In the 80 feet level the lode between' the slides is not looking so well. The manager has commenced sinking a : winze here* and though some gold is seen there is hot quite at much as might be expected from the appearance of the lode in the drive above. The present stopes on the No. 9 are beginning to get exhausted, and the cross leader and Wallis' lode stbpes are through to the tunnel level.' The country in the face of the tunnel it harder than it has ever been, as may be judged by the fact that only 16 feet have been driven during the last week. The Point Bussell wince is down about 27 feet, the; reef being 3 feet thick, with auriferous indications. The gold was melted at the Bank of New Zealand yesterday, and reduced to242soes.
