At a meeting of the Municipal Council, a motion to make special preparations to receive Sir George Grey was aegatived. .It was resolved to wait on him relative to the removal of railway station and completion of the Government Buildings. The Mayor was authorised to take whatever steps he might th'nk necessary to hospitably entertain Sir George Grey and party, but the entertainment is to be devo;.d of every particle of political significance.

The steamer Oreti had a dreadful passage from Dunedin, having twice had to suck shelter. At one time the vessel was in great danger.
