WESTPORT.
This day. On the Ministerial pariy re-embarking on Wednesday night, the tender could not lie alongside the Hinemoa on account of the heavy swell. Mr Macandrew, while getting from the open boat up the side of the steamer, missed his grip, and fell into tlie water. He had a narrow escape from drowning, as the sea was very lumpy and the night somewhat dark. '• Clarke's rink hall was totally destroyed by fire at'half-past twelve last night. The cause is a mystery, the proprietor being out of town. His wife states that no one was known to have entered the building after eight in the morning. The doors were then all locked. No lights have "been used there for many previous evenings. The adjacent dwellings were ■aved by the strenuous efforts of the Fire Brigade. The hail was insured in the New Zealand office for £550, tho value of the hall and contents being £600.
