although some very good stone was broken out, yet on ilie whole it unit nut come up to the average yield. J hi«s uiay be regarded as due to the large admixture of sandstone with the quartz, the country being so greatly broken up. The contractors in the Queen and 90 feet levels have made good progress during the past fortnight, Simms and party having driven 56 feet and Keenan and parly 40 feet. The country continues in both drives to' be of a promising character. The reef in the Queen appears to be a strong body of stone, from which as the work proceeds a large quantity of water issues, the drive being on the foot wall side of the reef. Although no gold is viable, yet good indications are met with. At the battery, with the exception of Saturday last, crushing has been as usual. The average stamping power working for the week has been 20 head, which reI duced 260 tons of quartz. Of these 5 lons were for the public, and 255 for the Waitekauri Company, the yield for the latter being 160 ounces of amalgam. The above number of tons also represents the quantity of quarto conveyed on tramways Ihe wages. Ac., for the fortnight endmjr 16lh instant are £302 8s od.-I hare, Ac* B. M. COMBBTT. *
