AXY6EH IS LIFE. Although the modern Materia Medina in-' eludes, many valuable remediia for humaa afflictions, it is n matter of certainty that in all cases -where the animal vitality is failing, Phosphorus is decidedly superior, to every other remedy at present known. It will work effects such as nothing else will produce, and it possesses the great advantage of not causing, when its use i« relinquished, the slightest reaction or depression. Tho question naturally presents itself, " Why is so valuable an element to little regarded and so seldom prescribed?" The only answer which can be given is : —That a certain difficulty has been found in so preparing it that its action may be kept under perfect control. Hitherto it has been used in almond and olive oils, in sulphuric ether, in rectified alcohol, in chloroform, and in several other substances ; but howerer valuable it has been found in all the hitherto known methods of its preparation, certain irregular results have been experienced, which hare led physicians to neglect itt or general purposes, and to employ it. only in extreme cases, and after every other remedy hue failed. But a chemical process has now been discovered, by which ite invaluable action on the human system may bo realised without any of those drawback* j which previous modes of administration have I invariably produced. *3T Caution. — PHOSPHORUS is sometimes sold in tho form of Fills and Lozenges ; it should be generally known that evory form where SOLID PABTICLEB of Phosphorus are in combination is dangerous. ■ It is therefore necessary that the public j should be cautioned against the use of any preparation of Phosphorm not perfectly soluble in water.
