PIAKO.
The mine continues to look about the sar''.<*. The crushing at the company's mill was stopped yesterday, and the hands working at the bottom level have been considerably reduced, very little work beiug done on the main reef. The driving of the north cross-cut is being pushed ahead with all speed, and the lode should soon be to hand. Some prospecting operations havo lately been tried on the No. 1 lode at No. 6 lerel, but so far have been unattended by any satisfactory result. The driving a cross-cut to intersect the Vanguard and South British lodes is a work of considerable importance, and will prospect these reefs at a much greater depth than they have hitherto been worked. The Vanguard lode' is about 300 feet from the nearest workings and the South British lodes some distance further off. The tributes let are in full swing, and the majority of them will be able to wind by the Bird in Hand shaft.
