PRINCE IMPERIAL.
In the report of a previous visit to the mine the improved state of thereof in the west drive was noticed. lam glad to stale that this improved 'state of affairs continues, and the improvement appears to increase going west. The lode in the face of the drive is now about two feet thick, and daring the last few days has become more like the eastern end, being a great deal less coarse than formerly. The lode in this direction has a large stretch of country to traverse before the western boundary is reached, and consequently it is of importance that it should be payable in this direction, as the stretch of reef on the other side of the shaft is comparatively limited. Some gold has been seen in this part of the mine yesterday. In the eastern end the reef is about one foot thick on the average though it varies considerably. The country continues kindly for the bearing of a gold bearing lode, and there is every reason to believe that the slopes immediately over head will be worth as much as those further west. In these stopes specimens are coming to hand daily and yesterday some of the best stone ever seen in the mine came to hand. In the next level, as the reef underlies north, a large portion of the lode will be in the recently acquired Ural ground, which was quite sufficient ground for the directors to offer the price for it they did. The northern continuation of the Mariner's reef also runs into the Ural, so that it will be seen that that claim is a valuable acquisition to the company's ground. The extension of the south cross-cut from the Big Pump will, in the course of a few months, approach the Prince Imperial, and give drainage for the deeper levels. I may mention that crushing will be resumed next week, when there will be some 50 or 60 tons to crush.
