THE WEEK.

During the week the directors of the Fiako mine hare given up the hope at present of keeping the company's mill going perpetually, and crushing largo quantities of stuff of doubtful quality, and hare decided to work only the higher grade stuff, and crush when accumulation of quartz may require. It will be adrisable also to let as much of the ground as possible on tribute when a large revenue might be obtained from that source, something after the manner by which the Kuranui Hill Company's ground is worked. The tributes let hitherto hare all paid well, and there is no doubt an extensive and profitable tribute system could be inaugurated. There has been nothing startling in the general news daring the week. The success which has followed the operations of the Alburnia in Carpenter's section has induced operations in the Bendigo. Independent to be started, and the shareholders are sanguine of success. There has been some talk during the week of re-forming the Bed Queen Company, which, with all its capital called up, has been dragging along for many months on the scanty profits of small crushings and tributers percen* tages. The mine, which is really a pro-. raising piece of property, has never had a fair trial, which it could have if placed on a proper footing, or disposed of to some adjoining company.
